School Run Revolution as Bumbles introduces its first Electric car!

Reducing Bumbles’ carbon footprint is something we are strongly passionate about. One recent change we have made is switching one of our vehicles to an electric car.

Having recently joined the Belfast Business Promise Supporter Organisation, we are committed to working towards a number of business pledges, one being to ‘Protect our Environment.’

This pledge is particularly important to Bumbles. Sustainability in early years settings is essential for shaping the attitudes and behaviours of our future generations. By embracing sustainable practices and incorporating environmental education into our everyday, we can empower young children to care for the planet, paving a way for a brighter more sustainable future.

Cruising towards a cleaner conscience

Last week, Ryan – Bumbles Business & Development Manager, flew to England to pick up Bumbles’ first Electric vehicle. A successful 24 hour trip and notably the longest journey the car will ever do! Check out the travel itinerary below. The Government workplace charging scheme £350 grant was very helpful towards the installation costs of our new EV charger at HQ.

Bumbles wraparound team are the driving force behind the careful coordination of collections from the local schools to our wraparound settings each day. These are either on foot or by car. In total, we drive about 12 miles per day during school collection hours. These short journeys are ideal for an electric car.

There are many business benefits for Bumbles by switching to a car with zero emissions:

  • Better for our environment
  • Lower running costs
  • No trips to the petrol station
  • Exemption from paying road tax
  • Quieter commutes

Reducing our emissions by switching to an electric car means cleaner air for our children, their classmates, and the entire community. We do have a second vehicle which we hope we can switch to electric in the near future too as we endeavour to make more eco-friendly choices.
