Bumbles Pumpkin Patch raises money for community Defibrillator

At the end of October, Bumbles hosted a very special autumn event for all of our children, families and staff team. Together, we raised an incredible £2,312 in donations towards the installation of a defibrillator for our local community.

Bumbles Pumpkin Patch

The 2 day event gave us everything from glorious sunshine on our Friday evening Pumpkin Patch at Bumbles on the Hill to non-stop rain on the Saturday morning Pumpkin Patch at Bumbles by the park. Even the rainy weather couldn’t dampen any of the fun. The support and turnout from our families was fantastic at both events, especially those who arrived in fancy dress! All in all, a great cause and great social occasion.

Defibrillator Fundraiser

Bumbles’ recent spell of First Aid courses for our team in August and September highlighted again the importance of Defibrillators and how every business, street or public space should have one near. Every Bumbles setting has a Defibrillator near, although in an emergency situation maybe not near enough.

We initially hoped to raise enough money to buy and place a defib outside Bumbles in the Park with agreement from the council. This is a high footfall area with the Playpark right beside our setting and a busy entrance/exit to Ormeau Park. Since then, we have discovered two unregistered Defibrillators near by on Park Road which we are going to help install and register alongside the purchase of our own defibrillator and external casing. We are delighted to have been able to order a defibrillator through one of our Bumbles parents who works for HeartSine who make defibrillators here in Northern Ireland.

A huge Thank You

Together, we have raised an incredible £2,312 for our Defibrillator fundraiser. Thank you to all of our parents and friends of Bumbles for supporting, joining us and helping towards such an important cause. Special thank you as well to those members of our team who volunteered their time on Friday evening and Saturday morning to help with the event and the clear up! This simply could not have happened without you guys – Sigourney, Natasha, Amber, Kerrie, Melissa, Stuart, Aisling, Callum, Lily, Julie & Emma. And thanks to our groups who coordinated fun activities for the children during the week prior, to help with decorations for the Pumpkin Patches.

Thank you also to many neighbouring businesses in the Ormeau Road area who were so kind with donations for prizes including Memento, Mauds Ice cream and First Avenue Coffee. McMordie Bros kindly printed our signage for the Pumpkin Patch event and Bread and Banjo Bakery baked us some delicious cookies to share around. Lastly, we had a great deal of help from local supermarkets who were able to donate some of the pumpkins including Lidl and Marks & Spencers, and Tesco who gave us some discount.

Updates on the purchasing and installation of the Defibrillator and external cabinet to follow over the next coming weeks.
