Outings to a variety of places usually take place during holiday periods and provide the children in our care with exciting social and learning opportunities.

Members of our team must ensure that all aspects of the Outing Risk Assessment have been understood and considered.

It is vital to ensure that no unauthorised photographs are taken of Bumbles whilst on an outing.  External organisations are NOT PERMITTED to take or to post photographs of Bumbles children on their social media.

 

  1. Journey to and from the venue / place of interest on a hired bus or in a Bumbles Vehicle
  2. Missing child – Child wandering off unaccompanied. 
  3. Slips / Trips / Falls – First Aid required.
  4. Weather – Appropriate clothing, whether it’s wet or sunny. 
  5. Allergies – allergic reaction / anaphylactic shock. 
  6. Sharp objects / rubbish nearby
  7. Children left at the museum. 
  8. Possible illness, sickness, attacks, any medical emergency
  9. Children falling off equipment at the place / park. 
  10. Climbing on railings, fencing, walls, seating, pillars, trees and sculptures. 
  11. “Safer Strangers” 
  12.  Allergic reactions
  1. Children are to be made aware of the risks, staff to discuss these appropriately before leaving – “Safer Strangers”. // Staying seated appropriately. // Appropriate car seats provided – if applicable. // Adults to keep a close eye on children throughout the journey. 
  2. All staff to read Missing Child Policy before trip – If a child goes missing, Ensure that the rest of the children are safe, all staff are aware of the situation, look for the child whilst alerting security – alert senior management who will contact parents. Children to be grouped, Staff to be aware of who is in their group before leaving, but all staff are responsible for all of the children.
  3. Requied outing ratio to be met. Boundaries to be set by staff  team– children aware of what is expected of them / Rules. A register and contact numbers must be taken on the trip – Mobile with access to Famly App
  4. Staff must be vigilant and not let children engage in “dangerous” play. First aid kit should be carried at all times, at least one first aider must go on the trip.  Staff should have a mobile phone to call an ambulance if needed. One staff member should go with the child in the ambulance, a member of staff from Bumbles should go to the group to replace the staff member in the ambulance by car. 
  5. Children and staff must wear appropriate clothing dependant on the weather. Raincoat, wellington boots etc when raining – plus spare clothes for changing ; Sun cream, sun hats and cooler clothing when it is sunny. 
  6. Food items provided by Bumbles will be checked for allergens – if unsure do not take the risk ; Food provided when on the trip – icecreams etc must be carefully managed. NO FOOD CONTAINING NUTS IS EVER TO BE SERVED TO BUMBLES CHILDREN.  Epi-pens / inhalers to be brought on the trip, call 999 if necessary then call management. .
  7. Children to be reminded of the dangers of rubbish / things on the ground prior to leaving Bumbles – In general children should not pick up any form of rubbish.  Good footwear should be worn.  First aid kit should be taken. Staff MUST be aware of the children in their groups. 
  8. Register to be taken before departure. Staff to headcount children throughout the trip. Staff to have overall register (on Famly) and be aware of needed action. (see missing child policy)
  9. Staff aware of possible children at risk. Staff to have relevant phone numbers re: contacting Bumbles.  First aid kit to be taken.  Inhalers, Epipens etc to be taken.
  10. Staff to ensure that equipment is safe, check age restrictions. Normally there are safety notices where relevant. Appropriate supervision of children throughout the trip. 
  11. There are normally safety notices where around fencing.  Appropriate supervision of children at all times.  Staff to be vigilant. 
  12. Discuss Safer Strangers with children when leaving for a trip / visit. Staff to be vigilant during outings to ensure that all children are safe and are not talking to adults that they shouldn’t be. Children should not be able to accept food from other adults or children who may be in the vicinity

If a child is allergic to any foods – especially PEANUTS – ensure that appropriate medication is taken – 2 X EPI-PEN etc

The obvious benefits from children going on an outing together are the fun, excitement, social and learning opportunities they provide.
